Fun With Belle....

Thursday, February 26, 2009
Belle's idea of fun is romping around in the back yard with a stuffed animal. So I spent some time out there with her recently trying out the new SLR.

Her favorite thing to do is prance around leaping and hopping.

And more hopping

Then she likes to make demonic faces while running around.

She also tries her best statue in motion pose like Stella did in the snow a couple weeks back. Only Belle had to one-up her by including a stuffed animal in her mouth.

Then she gets all fancy with elegant footwork. Well, at least she thinks she's elegant.

But her most favorite thing to do is grab a hold of her stuffed animal and fling it high up in the air and jump up and catch it.

It's just a shame the photographer chopped her head off in this one. She was a good 3ft off the ground.

Ready For Spring....

Monday, February 23, 2009
This is the longest stretch of the winter it seems. Not much going on except waiting and hoping for a quick end to the cold temperatures.

Yeah, I'm a hot weather person. The hotter the better. I was in Las Vegas a few years back when it was 119 degrees; I was the only person not sweating. Loved it!

I really wanted to take the dogs out to run this weekend, but the weather wasn't that great and we had family in town celebrating four birthdays all at once. That means we didn't get a chance to make the Pet Expo, but it looks like everyone had a good time without us.

In addition, I just finished working on the new GPA Richmond website. There are still some features to be added, but the new design is in place.

Pint Size Video

Wednesday, February 18, 2009
Someone asked me the other day what I use to shoot the video posted on the blog, so I decided to share. I've been using the Creative Vado which is a small cell phone sized video camera. It records up to two hours of decent quality video and the battery lasts forever. What's best is you just plug it straight into your computer to download the video; no cables or complicated software or storage media necessary. It's all housed within the unit itself.

I think the biggest draw for me when I bought it was the price. It's selling for $79 right now for the silver, and $65 for those of you who like pink.

I've found it to be quite handy taking videos of the hounds playing. I've also been slipping it in my pocket to take it around town; because you never know what you might see! I secretly want to be one of those iReporters on CNN who submits a video of some major news event.

For those of you who are more adventurous, or really like gadgets [Trina], they have an HD version available as well, but it carries a heftier price tag too!

Fun in the Sun!

Tuesday, February 10, 2009
As most of you have experienced the last few days in the Mid Atlantic, the weather has been great! Great is of course a relative term. I'd prefer temperatures in the 90's, but for February I'll take 70!

We managed to sneak out early Sunday morning for some fun with the dogs before we returned home to spend all day working on various projects and volunteer activities.

Here are a few photos we took during Beau and Belle's first trip running in a large fenced in area. Neither one of them really got up to full speed, they were more interested in exploring than running. Whatever makes them happy!

Skiddy Gets Adopted!

Thursday, February 5, 2009
Good news! I heard from Trina & Jason [aka the Suba-roo Crew] today that Skiddy will be officially adopted on Sunday! Just one catch: her name is now Stella; sorry Gyeong.

So as a farewell send off, here is a quick video of Skiddy from her time with us. She is such a beautiful and sweet girl. We hope she is happy in her forever home!

Skiddy Update

Monday, February 2, 2009
I've been pretty bad about making regular updates of late, but it was all for a good reason. Our foster dog, Skiddy Wigwam, was keeping us busy, and we have had a handful of events and other activities occupying our time.

As the title indicates, there is some news on Skiddy. On Friday I took her to her potential forever home! The family expressed interest in her and wanted to arrange a visit. However, they had some concerns about how she would react to their two Shih Tzus. Since Skiddy was not cat safe, that was naturally a valid concern. The family also has another Greyhound named Cosmo, who is a very laid back male.

I took her over to their house on Friday night and introduced the dogs. We left Skiddy's muzzle on to gauge her reaction to the Shih Tzus. Fortunately there were no major problems, but there was a minor scuffle and barking fit within the first five minutes. That quickly passed and Skiddy seemed indifferent to the presence of fluffy moving objects.

I'm hopeful everything works out for them, Skiddy is such a sweet girl with remarkable intelligence.
