Mercy For Animals

Thursday, September 3, 2009
This post isn't for everyone, but I really felt like I needed to post it.

I wish no animal was treated poorly. I understand that most of us eat meat on a daily basis, and that's bad enough. I'm okay with that if the animals are respected and not mistreated during their brief life cycle before making it to our plates.

You hear about these stories a couple of times per year. Cows getting killed without being unconscious, chickens being thrown around and living in small cages. The stories don't have much impact it seems because these behaviors continue everyday in this country. I can't imagine what it's like in other countries with even less rules on how animals are treated.

I saw this article on Twitter yesterday, and despite knowing the outcome of how I'd feel after watching it, I made myself watch it anyway. There is no gore or blood, but it's sad to see how these poor little chicks are treated. Please watch this video. There has to be a better solution than "Don't Eat Eggs." Surely some type of legislation that enforced punishment could help? Maybe not.... it is our government.

Thank you for posting this. I shared it on my FB page. I already don't eat chicken for the way they are treated. I guess I need to add eggs to that ban.

Agribusiness is all about feeding the masses with cheap food. It costs them money to care about animal welfare. I am looking into getting my meat and eggs from a family farm not too far from my house. It might cost more, but they have a good reputation for how they treat their animals.

I wish I could find a local family farm to get chicken from. I don't eat meat, but the dogs do, of course. I think the answer comes down to people caring. Its too easy for people to turn a blind eye when faced with neat packaging in the grocery stores.
