A Great Quote

"... the great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, ... he will make a fool of himself, too." - Samuel Butler

Too cute not to share

Wednesday, December 16, 2009
Thanks to the wonders of social media, I found a fellow Greyhound friend on Twitter who just so happens to create some artwork for her adoption group. Typically she creates characters for t-shirts, coffee mugs etc which are sold through Cafe Press and the proceeds go towards her local Greyhound chapter: Second Chance Greyhounds of Atlanta, GA.

She's a wonderful lady named Kimberly Morris and was kind enough to create some characters of Beau & Belle for me to include on some Christmas gifts. Her work is exceptional. If you know Beau & Belle, you can appreciate how striking the image is, as it captures their personalities wonderfully!

In the interest of protecting her privacy and not creating a nice spam opportunity, if you would like her contact information, please let me know and I will provide you with it.

Happy Holidays!

This week’s episode of BeauMan features his best friend Indiana Belle.  You may recognize her from the movie “Indiana Belle and the Temple of Dog Bones.”

Life without.... Blog?

Friday, October 30, 2009
Yep, it's been a while since I've had a few spare moments to blog. You might say: "How can you not have a spare 15 minutes to write a blog entry?" Well, it's easier than you might think!

First and foremost, I am a huge baseball fan. September and October mean no more baseball for five months, which is simply devastating to me. So when the playoffs roll around, I spend every moment I can watching men bash leather covered stitching with large pieces of lathed wood. Belle and Beau's favorite team is the Baltimore Orioles, so they are routing for the Phillies in the World Series (they can't stand the Yankees; boooo!)

Secondly, as some of you may know, I am a software developer and spend some time freelancing for local businesses. In the last few months my workload has shot through the roof! Most notably I just finished my first iPhone app for one of my regular clients You've Got Supper. It was a really fun project to work on and I thoroughly enjoyed the challenges of a new platform.

I'm not much of a Mac fan (sorry Deborah!) but I now own a Mac amongst the clutter of other geek equipment in my office. I have to say that it's a interesting operating system with it's unique set of tools, but I'm not leaving my Windows PCs anytime soon! (read: EVER)

I promise to post some dog pictures in the next few days. I have a few shots from the GPA Picnic and a few hound stories to share.

Mercy For Animals

Thursday, September 3, 2009
This post isn't for everyone, but I really felt like I needed to post it.

I wish no animal was treated poorly. I understand that most of us eat meat on a daily basis, and that's bad enough. I'm okay with that if the animals are respected and not mistreated during their brief life cycle before making it to our plates.

You hear about these stories a couple of times per year. Cows getting killed without being unconscious, chickens being thrown around and living in small cages. The stories don't have much impact it seems because these behaviors continue everyday in this country. I can't imagine what it's like in other countries with even less rules on how animals are treated.

I saw this article on Twitter yesterday, and despite knowing the outcome of how I'd feel after watching it, I made myself watch it anyway. There is no gore or blood, but it's sad to see how these poor little chicks are treated. Please watch this video. There has to be a better solution than "Don't Eat Eggs." Surely some type of legislation that enforced punishment could help? Maybe not.... it is our government.

Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot!

Monday, August 10, 2009
We had a minor heat wave come through Central VA for the last few days. It was hot enough on my back deck to push the thermometer to 106.5! That's more like a radio station, not a Richmond summer day. On a side note, I have no idea why my time is in PST... apparently I wish I was in Las Vegas.

We have Skiddy Urban with us again for a few days. After a brief romp in the backyard with B&B he took a few minutes to cool off. I think his caption reads "Can I get an ice cold lemonade?"

Beau was hot, and for some strange reason that means he goes into the foyer and lays down near the front door. Maybe the wood floors radiate cooler temperatures. One of life's little mysteries....

Belle on the other hand found a nice quiet corner to lay down and rest. Her caption reads "What? What's wrong with my ears?"
